Bird: I Wish I Could Have Met You

Extinction sucks. The very idea that in order for one species to be fruitful and multiple implies that other species will be left by the wayside without food or space is a tough pill for me to swallow. I am an advocate of the unseen, the unknown. I hope to bring witness to the avian creatures that we have lost to civilization. It is hoped that through this lens we can understand our roles on this planet for what they are rather than resorting to the easier and more idyllic sense of human identity.

It is humbling to spend a number of weeks with the dead as a consistent companion and yet it no great stretch of the imagination. Every being is with us at all times. Histories and futures may all be written much like Vonnegut’s Tralfamadorians believe. It is intended that these pieces will provide pause, a
respite from an overwhelming sense of entitled ego. And so it goes.
